Recruiters often skim a resume in under a minute before deciding whether to read on. A good resume makes that skim easy: clear sections, recent experience first, and results rather than duties.

Build it

  1. Open the Resume Builder. You see a live preview as you type.
  2. Fill in your name, the job title or headline you are aiming for, email, phone, location and a LinkedIn or portfolio link.
  3. Write a professional summary of two or three sentences.
  4. Add Experience, newest first, with start and end dates. In Achievements, each line becomes a bullet.
  5. Add Education, Skills (comma separated) and anything else under certifications, languages, awards or volunteering.
  6. Pick a template (Classic, Modern or Compact) and click Download PDF.

Your resume is created in your browser and not uploaded. Most resume sites ask for an account or payment at the download step; this one doesn’t.

Write achievements, not duties

Duties describe the job. Achievements describe what you did in it. Start with a verb and add a result or number when you honestly can.

Instead of Write
Responsible for social media Grew Instagram followers from 2,000 to 9,500 in a year with a weekly content plan
Helped customers Answered about 40 customer emails a day and cut average response time from 2 days to 6 hours
Worked on the website Rebuilt the product pages, which shortened load time and reduced support questions about sizes

Only use numbers you can explain in an interview.

Keep it readable for applicant tracking systems

Many companies first run applications through software that extracts your text. To make sure it reads everything:

One page or two?

One page for students and anyone with less than about ten years of experience. Two pages are fine for long careers, as long as the first page holds what matters most. If it spills slightly onto a second page, switch to Compact, shorten the summary, or keep three to five bullets per job.
