Split PDF

Break a long PDF into smaller files: one file per page, one per range, or a single new PDF with only the pages you choose.

Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

How to use Split PDF

  1. Open a PDF.
  2. Choose ranges (like 1-3, 6) or one file per page.
  3. Download the new PDF or a .zip of files.

Features

  • Custom page ranges
  • One PDF per page as a .zip
  • Reverse ranges like 5-1
  • No quality loss

Supported formats

You can open

  • PDF

You get

  • PDF
  • ZIP

Private by design

Your files are opened and processed by your browser on this device. They are never uploaded to openWorkstand or anyone else, so the Split PDF is safe for contracts, IDs, photos and work documents, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded. How local processing works

Good to know

  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF (you need the password).
  • Very large files are limited by your device’s memory; on a phone, split huge files into smaller parts first.

When to use the Split PDF

  • Send a colleague only the pages they need from a long report.
  • Separate a scanned batch of invoices into one file per invoice.
  • Pull a single chapter out of an e-book for printing.

Examples

Send only pages 3 to 5

Choose Custom ranges and type 3-5. You get a new PDF with just those pages; the original stays as it is.

One file per chapter

Type the chapter ranges, for example 1-12, 13-30, 31-48. Each range becomes its own PDF, or turn on “Put all ranges in one PDF” to collect them into one file.

A stack of scanned two-page forms

If one scan holds many forms of two pages each, choose Every N pages and set 2. Each form becomes a separate PDF.

Troubleshooting

The file does not open

Check that it is one of the supported formats above and opens in another app. Damaged files and password-protected PDFs cannot be read until they are repaired or unlocked.

It is slow or stops on a very large file

Everything runs on your device, so speed depends on its memory. Close other tabs, use a computer rather than a phone, or split the file into smaller parts first.

The download did not start

Look for your browser’s download bar or icon. Some browsers ask once before a site may download files; allow it and click the button again.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your files are processed on your own device by your browser. They never leave your computer or phone, and there is no file size limit other than your device’s memory.

Is this safe for confidential documents?

Yes. The PDF is opened and processed by your own browser and is never uploaded, which makes it safer than online services that send files to their servers.

Step-by-step guides

Keep working with the result

After you download, choose “Save to Workstand” to keep the result in a folder on your computer, attach it to a project and create a follow-up task. It is saved by your browser, not uploaded.
