Privacy policy
Last updated 6 October 2026
openWorkstand is built to know nothing about your work. There are no accounts, we have no servers that store files, and everything you create stays on your own computer.
See how local processing works, including the complete list of the few features that use the internet.
Your files stay on your computer
When you open the workspace you choose a folder on your computer (or create a new one). Documents, spreadsheets, notes, tasks, projects, calendar events, whiteboards and code are saved there as normal files. openWorkstand reads and writes that folder directly from your browser, using the File System Access API. The files are never sent to us or to anyone else.
Your browser asks for your permission before openWorkstand can open a folder, and you can revoke that permission at any time in your browser’s site settings. openWorkstand only sees the folder you choose, never the rest of your computer.
Some browsers (for example Firefox and Safari) cannot open folders yet. In those browsers your workspace is kept in the browser’s private storage on your device (the Origin Private File System or IndexedDB). It is still not uploaded. UseSettings → Download everything to save a copy, because clearing the browser’s site data deletes this storage.
The browser tools
Every tool on this site (for example the PDF merger, image compressor or EMI calculator) processes your text and files inside your browser. Your input is not uploaded. Some tools remember your last input in your browser’s local storage so it is still there when you come back; you can clear it at any time.
A few tools contact a public service only when you ask them to: the citation generator can look up a DOI or ISBN (it sends just that number to Crossref or Open Library), and speech recognition in some browsers is processed by the browser maker’s speech service. These requests do not include your files.
What our hosting provider sees
The website is a set of static pages served by our hosting provider. Like every website, the host receives your IP address and browser details when it delivers a page, and keeps short-lived logs for security. On public pages (not the workspace) we use Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to count page views and measure loading speed. They use no cookies and do not follow you across sites. The workspace contains no trackers.
Advertising
There are currently no ads on openWorkstand. If ads are added, they will appear only on public tool pages, never inside your workspace, and this policy will be updated.
Cookies and local storage
openWorkstand itself does not use cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage for preferences such as the theme and tool settings, and to remember which workspace folder you chose. Advertising partners may set their own cookies as described above.
Children
openWorkstand does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it has no accounts and stores no user files.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date.
