PDF to Excel

Turn statements, price lists and reports into a spreadsheet you can sort and sum. Each PDF page becomes a sheet.

Free, no sign-up. Runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

How to use PDF to Excel

  1. Open a PDF that contains text.
  2. Check the table preview.
  3. Download the .xlsx file.

Features

  • Rows and columns detected from text position
  • One sheet per page
  • Numbers kept as numbers
  • Works with statements and invoices

Supported formats

You can open

  • PDF

You get

  • XLSX

Private by design

Your files are opened and processed by your browser on this device. They are never uploaded to openWorkstand or anyone else, so the PDF to Excel is safe for contracts, IDs, photos and work documents, and it keeps working offline once the page has loaded. How local processing works

Good to know

  • Scanned PDFs are pictures of pages: they contain no text to extract unless they were made searchable with OCR.
  • Merged cells and irregular layouts may need tidying in the spreadsheet afterwards.
  • Password-protected PDFs must be unlocked first with Unlock PDF (you need the password).

When to use the PDF to Excel

  • Analyze a bank statement in a spreadsheet.
  • Copy a price table out of a supplier’s PDF.
  • Reuse tables from reports without retyping them.

Examples

A bank statement you want to sort and total

Convert the statement and open the .xlsx: each PDF page becomes its own sheet, with the text arranged into rows and columns. Copy the rows into one sheet, check that long descriptions did not wrap into a second row, then sort by amount or add a SUM.

A supplier price list

Columns in the PDF become columns in the sheet. Repeated headers on every page are kept, so delete the extra header rows before filtering.

Troubleshooting

Columns are shifted or merged

Tables without clear spacing between columns can land in one cell. Split them in your spreadsheet with “Text to columns”, or copy the table from the PDF reader instead.

The sheet is empty

The PDF is probably a scan, which contains pictures of text rather than text. Try selecting a word in your PDF reader to check.

The file does not open

Check that it is one of the supported formats above and opens in another app. Damaged files and password-protected PDFs cannot be read until they are repaired or unlocked.

It is slow or stops on a very large file

Everything runs on your device, so speed depends on its memory. Close other tabs, use a computer rather than a phone, or split the file into smaller parts first.

The download did not start

Look for your browser’s download bar or icon. Some browsers ask once before a site may download files; allow it and click the button again.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the table detection?

Clean, regular tables convert well. Merged cells and irregular layouts may need a little tidying in Excel afterwards.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your files are processed on your own device by your browser. They never leave your computer or phone, and there is no file size limit other than your device’s memory.

Step-by-step guides

After you download, choose “Save to Workstand” to keep the result in a folder on your computer, attach it to a project and create a follow-up task. It is saved by your browser, not uploaded.
